Bloated web galleries

Been looking at using Lightroom to create web galleries, and have been very concerned with the size of the resulting website.

The first time I tried, just using the presets as offered resulted in a pathetic 13MB site. This is for just 17 images.

So changing the settings is a must (pity the defaults are so bad)

Using Lightroom to create a basic flash gallery (17 images) - 2.7MB

Using Photoshop using as similar flash gallery as I could find - 530kB

Lightroom to create an HTML gallery - 1.5MB

Photoshop's equivalent HTML gallery - 520kB

I tried to keep image sizing/quality as similar as possible.

One point I've noticed is Lightroom uploads large, medium, small, and thumbnails irrespective of options chosen - that wastes a lot of space on its own, and is probably central to the problem.

I know there are ways to create your own, but surely the supplied templates should be more efficient than they appear here.

Agree, I have noticed the same problem. Websites are just too big resulting in a long creation time, long upload time and wasted webspace.

Where can I get better templates?

Do you notice that you can resize the browser window and the LR galleries automatically adjust the size of the picture? Do PS galleries do that? It may be the reason for LR galleries being bigger (they adjust to the user).

Not true for HTML Gallery, maximized image and thumbnails have fixed size. Do you mean Flash-Galleries?

For example: for a specific HTML-template LR creates 3 different image sizes large, small and thumb, but only 2 of them are used: large and thumb.

The flash galleries are terrible, too. Resizing the images occurs well before the border gets anywhere near the edge of the photo. I hate Flash anyway, and block it in Firefox. But I wanted to see what it was all about, because I'd like to be able to automatically create galleries that I can easily embed in an exist web design. Lightroom is not the tool to use, clearly.

been asked to run sports image programme for grass track and started using lightroom. Is there a way of up loaded to web gallery without having to re sample (re size) images first ,and if so is it possible to change image size to all images up loaded in one go (per batch)or does this have to be done to individual images? I would like to be able in just a few clicks to up load a group of images all set to one preset say 450 pixels and bish bash bosh up load within minutes am i asking too much or have i missed something?

If i save a web gallery can it be introduced into dreamweaver to be added to a page already produced?
