Saved Files

Just started using LR and I was wondering if it creates files somewhere on my computer that I need to delete.

I use capture one and I have a folder where it keeps all the data from my raws that I delete once I am finished with a project, Even when I open a raw in photoshop it creates that file that you need to delete.

Does LR do the same, if so where are they?

Thanks
Saved Files
If you delete the image from LR when you are done with it, LR will take care of that on its own.
Saved Files
I'm not talking about the image but the raw image data that's separate from the image itself.

when you start tweaking an image the data is saved someplace in a separate file in capture one and adobe raw, You delete this after a project is done to free up hard drive space.

I know what you are talking about. If you delete the image from LR (not off the disk, just removing it from the LR library), LR will take care of the library and previews for you.

So if I open up 500 images from a wedding in LR and process them, output them and then open up 600 images from a different wedding where does the info from the first 500 images go?

What if I open the first 500 images again isn't all my tweaking saved or do I have to process them all over? See what I mean?

Now if it's saved someplace and I process 50 weddings this year all that info is going to start getting big and take up hard drive space.

It is in the database. It is only in sidecars or written to TIFFs, DNGs and JPEGs if you ask LR to.

As Lee Jay says, only if you delete the images from LR is all that info removed from the database. And that is a good thing. Hope this clears things up for you.

Will the database grow to a huge size if I process 50,000+ images?

If so should I open up my project once it's exported and remove all the photos from lightroom?

If you leave the images in Lightroom, the database will grow to a modest size. The previews directory could grow much larger size, but discarding 1:1 previews should reduce it substantially.

This might work for you: Consider a new library for each wedding. When done, burn the library in its entirety to DVDs or CDs. Perhaps, then, another Master Library for all your other photos, including images from each wedding that maybe would make a presentation via Slideshow....
%26lt;br /%26gt;
%26lt;br /%26gt;Other ways abound, and I must disclaim I'm no wedding shooter....

Where are the previews stored at?

On my Mac, they're in the same folder as the data base. (.lrdb), and called, oddly enough, Previews (.lrdata) ;) These can be deleted and reconstructed later if need be.

ok Now I think we are getting somewhere, where is the database at?

Do you have the option of creating a database and putting it somewhere like for example in the same folder as my wedding is?

Search: .lrdb.

Second, yes. I do think you'll find most of these questions covered in the Intro and FAQ....

John

Maybe you are right :) thanks

Ryan, what you seek is what I am testing at the moment, a library for each wedding. It seems to work ok. Image files and LR files in sperate folders in one client folder all on an external drive. No problems so far.........

Ryan

This library per wedding approach can also help help guarantee that a couple only see their own wedding, and there's nothing much wrong in the idea.

Equally nor should you be too frightened of letting the library grow. Compared with your images, the library file and previews (there's a Preference to let them die after x days) will never be all that big. You could always set up each wedding as a collection, complete the job field, or filter the database down to a day. You'd also have simpler access to all images for building portfolios for different styles of weddings to show potential clients.
