First the psd was too large by MB and then the jpg was too large by dimension. But I only had to resize it by a little to get under 10,000 pixels so I at least had the jpg showing in Lightroom.
Not that I NEED files this large, but storage is cheap these days... This was a test panorama of cliffs at Big Bend Ranch State Park and I doubt I would ever print it very large although it is pretty.
File too large
Don't look for this to change anytime soon. Do a placemarker smaller jpg to keep track in LR.
Doesn't then matter what size the original is.

I did a placemarker, but I just realized after reading your comment that if I made a rather small placemaker it would be more obvious that there is something else somewhere... Or of course one could find a place in the metadata to make a comment... I don't see any obvious place, but just so long as I know where I put it I guess. Workflow / Instructions or maybe IPTC / Category. exifer shows a comment field but I don't see that in Lightroom.
Name the the same except for a simple identifier and have them in the same folder. Then if you do Cmd/Ctl-R for LR to take you to the folder it will be right there. Also there is places in IPTC like 'Instructons' or 'Job Identifier'.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Adobe short sightedness. You would think
with the major overhaul with ACR 4 that Adobe would have made the size limit
match Photoshop. But, I guess Adobe feels that if you have images this
large... too bad. Just another thing that was complained about by some
during the beta. Those of us that did got yelled at for it too.
This limitation is only going to grow as a problem. What's the point of an
image management program that can't manage all of your photos?
Robert
If Adobe doesn't want to increase the size limit then what they should do is
take the large image and make a preview image and thumbnail of it, add that
to the LR database so we can see it and then instead of allowing adjustments
in lightroom it would launch Photoshop and then load the original image for
editing. They could even put a small icon of some kind (the PS icon) on the
thumbnail in the library indicating that while it is listed there it has to
be edited in Photoshop.
I see this as very doable and an easy way to handle this problem.
