Keywording is Slooooow

Hello there. I've been a beta user since last April and I can't remember adding keywords to be this slow. This is horrible. It takes anywhere from 2 to 4 minutes at times to add a series of keywords to ONE image. Sometimes I have to Force Quite as it seems to hang. Anyone else? I am using a 1.5Ghz Powerbook G4, 2 Gigs of Ram and LOTS of HD space. This is killing me folks. The beta version used to fly on keywords.

Yes, I've posted about this on many occasions. Other people have also experienced it. There's definitely a performance hit once you have a certain number of keywords.



I have about 1000 keywords, and even that amount kills keywording performance (it should be able to cope with tens of thousands). It now takes upwards of 10-15 seconds to add a new keyword via the right-hand pane, and that's on a Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.



I really hope they fix it soon. It was worse in the betas, because having lots of keywords would bring the entire application to a halt, whereas it now only affects us when we add a new one. I fear though that since they've obvious addressed the beta issue it's now considered fixed. Since the developers no longer give us feedback on bug reports I've no idea if they're even aware of the problem.

I somehow think that the huge delays some report on keywords is a very scattered phenomenon, and hopefully fixable by us users. In a thread yesterday i suggested that the user run Purge unused keywords, but that's a shot in the dark.

Thanks for the info. How do you run that ''purge''. At this point I'm willing to try ANYTHING.

I shot over 2100 images last week and am STILL keywording it is so frustratingly (if that is even a word) SLOW.

I would hate having to go back to Photoshop to do this.

In Library, go to Metadata in the top menu, and Purge is at the bottom.



Thinking further, I put in most keywords on Import- could that make a difference?

I'll try this later tonight and post. As far as keywording on import i also add as many keywords to the import as I can. However, I find the need to go in to individual images and add additonal keywords, or make changes. That is where it really bogs down!

I never had this problem in my beta version. I've already reloaded preferences, and done a few other things I can't remember. But, I'll do the Purge tonight and see if that helps.

I am so far behind in keywording it's getting scary.

I did as you suggested - Purge the Keyword and it WORKED! I am now zipping here! I actually finished keywording all my images!
