Renaming Files Creates Duplicates

I have tried to rename files from within the Library module, using F2 or Library/Rename, and find that Lightroom leaves the original files and creates copies with the new names.

This happens when you rename files singly and also in groups.

This has the effect of increasing the size of folders, after two or three attempts at renaming 202 files had increased to 700 plus......

Not what I interpret ''Renaming'' to mean.

Am I missing something simple, or doing something wrong here please!!!
Renaming Files Creates Duplicates
Which OS?

I tried it on XP and the files are renamed as supposed. If they are write protected I can't rename them and they are not duplicated.

Don't know, what happens on your machine.

On my Dell PC it works perfectly well. No duplicates. You must be doing something wrong.

Or it is a weird bug. How consistent is this? Where are your files (type of drive) and what OS?

Also file type and any other specifics you can.

Do check to see if the folder is write protected (locked, in Mac terms)
