Importing multiple files with same name...

While importing my pictures from recorded DVDs, LR started to complain that the picture where already in the library, and would not import them. I then understood pictures with the same file name and extension were indeed in the library, even if they were different different pictures!

At the time I used to number my scanned slides, for every project, starting from raw0001.tif. Too unfortunate because now LR doesn't import the files with same name.

Any way to overcome this, beside re-recording all files on DVD with different names (ugh!)?
Importing multiple files with same name...
Uncheck the ignore suspected duplicates box on import.
Importing multiple files with same name...
Lee, I am afraid that doesn't fix it: LR comes up with the warning message right after I click ''Choose Selected'' in the Import Photos... dialog, and before showing me the dialog with the ''Ignore suspected duplicate'' checkbox. Anyway, if I uncheck the box (which I routinely do), LR does NOT import the pictures with duplicate file name anyway.

I think the problem is that they are all on the same directory (the DVD) and so LR thinks they are all the same and it skips the normal import dialog for the same reason.

I'm not sure of a solution as I haven't tried it (I don't use optical media). Maybe someone else can help.

One work around maybe to first download a set (one Dvd) to a folder on a n unmpuntable drive (even a thumbdrive) and import it to LR. LR should not have a persevement problem with this. Then once in LR unmount the Drive that has the folder (you still have the DVD originals) and repoint the images to the DVD. Then do again with a different named Folder and a new DVD. Label the temp folders individually and label the DVDs to match (write on the DVD label). Repeat as needed.

Please let us know if this works.

The ''CHECK SPELLING'' button is a marvelous option :)

(Sorry. The devil made me do this. )

I rather like the first one, taking out the m, we have ''unpuntable'', meaning you have to do it; you can't punt... Now that I think on it, I am sure some Madden like character has already used that term on air, although I haven't heard it.

IAE, keep on speling good....

John, they learned you good when you went to skool :)

Sorry, sometimes I am in a hurry and I do not touch type. Unmountable drives it would be and I perceive I have a spelling issue as well.

In any case, does this option work to do the job for the same named images on DVDs?

OT ( except to the most recent other posts.)

If you think that was bad you should see my Doctoral Boss's dyslexic emails that have not been checked by a secretary. He is so dyslexic he can't use a spellchecker because he can't judge which word is correct.

But he is brilliant at what he does do. Interactive Exhibit concepts for a museum.

Don, makes sense. I will try it.

Actually LR has also this nasty, consequent misbehavior. Say I display in the grid view pictures imported from a DVD (device G:); then I put in the DVD player G: a DVD with different pictures, but named the same way... LR starts to read them from the DVD, and changes the thumbnails of the pictures in the grid view consequently. ARGH!

What I have suggested may resolve this. Not at all sure though. Once you can match a dvd to an import set you should be all right.
